Seriously, this sounds like a crazy list of excuses. But here’s what happened this morning that opens my eyes about the smallest hurdles to me sitting down to write.
I woke up at 5:45 AM, my usual alarm time. Yet I actually didn’t set an alarm. It was my day to sleep in; however, I heeded the call. My first waking thoughts were me basically crafting a blog post in my head. So, I got up to seize the opportunity and write!
I grabbed my laptop downstairs, as well as a cup of coffee. I had the baby monitor just in case. I holed up in the bonus room, legs criss-crossed in the recliner. With light blanket and pillow prop for early morning coziness.
Open computer. Open browser. Begin website backend login. I’m all settled. Then, various distractions popped up…
- Remember there was a character name from this movie I had to find on IMDB
- Oops, go get phone from bedside because I had to enter a texted verification code
- Look up exact definition of a word to be sure I nailed that person’s descriptor
- Dammit, pronto during coffee intake, I need to tiptoe down the hall for the bathroom
- Look up another word definition (Why am I obsessed with precise meanings?!)
- Get stuck, my story not coming out quite like it did in my brain
- Husband walks in to chat, explaining to him that if I don’t claim this time, I will NEVER write
